Eating Italian…..in Spain

psx_20160517_180211 Seville may not be the number one place in Spain to visit, but perhaps it should be. Make no mistake, you will not be one of a select few visiting the nice historic centre of town, but it is not receiving the millions that Barcelona and Madrid see every year.

The city centre has many sights like the Plaza de Espana, the Cathedral, Metropole Parasol and many other interesting places to visit. The atmosphere is extremely relaxed, the weather is fantastic and it is not too expensive. It is also good to know that after a day of sightseeing, there are plenty of great restaurants and bars to unwind with a cool drink and a snack. Also, the food at dinner can be excellent……. if you know where to go.

psx_20160517_180123Just like many town, Seville has an area that draws many tourists for lunch and dinner. In Seville it is Mateos Gago, a street conveniently located off the square (Plaza Virgen de los Reyes) next to the Cathedrale de Sevilla. Where the food in the restaurants is not necessarily bad, but good is another thing. As for the menu, the general rule is that what is on the menu in one place, is also available next door for about the same price. For every rule there are exceptions though!

A welcome change to the almost standardized restaurant menus on Mateos Gago is l’Oca Giuliva. After a few days of eating the same tapas, you’ll be ready for some Italian food. The generous portions of salads and pastas an pizzas make you think you’re in Italy. All the food is freshly made and flavours are amazing — I finished my salad, including the ‘bowl’ (made out of Parmesan cheese) it was served in. Contrary to many other restaurants in the street, the service is quick and friendly. The restaurant small and popular so reservations are recommended. Show up without reservations and risk having to wait for a while, but the food is definitely worth the wait…..
